Note: Alternative Education Programs must be approved each school year.

  • The approved list of programs with school contact information can be found here under the Documents and Resources section.

  • Any corrections needed on this document in regards to school contact information must be managed with studentpathways_AltEd@doe.in.gov

Alternative Education Reporting Requirements:

  • Report the accurate Alternative Education Program Name associated with the reporting Corporation ID.

    • The approved list of program names for reporting can be found here. NOTE!!: final updated list for 2024-2025 school year will be made available after November 1, 2024

  • Report students in grades 6-12 that have been enrolled (placed) in an alternative program.

    • Note: Fifth-year seniors should be reported as grade 12.

  • Report accurate begin and end dates when the student is enrolled in the program.

  • Report accurate begin and end dates for each time the student is enrolled in the program.

    • Note: Students may have more than one alternative education program record throughout the school year.

    • Note: A student cannot be enrolled in two Alternative Education Programs that have overlapping dates.

  • Each enrollment record requires Alternative Eligibility Reason; why the student is being enrolled in the alternative program. Below table provides those eligibility reasons allowable for reporting.

    • Eligibility reason may be the same or different if the student has multiple enrollment records provided.

Alternative Education Eligibility Reason Descriptors

Definition

Student intends to withdraw or has withdrawn before graduation.

Student has failed to comply academically and would benefit from instruction offered in a manner different from instruction available in a traditional school.

Student is a parent or an expectant parent and is unable to regularly attend the traditional school program.

Student is employed and employment is necessary for the support of the student or student’s immediate family and/or interferes with a part of the student’s instructional day.

The student is a disruptive student (as defined in IC 20-30-8-2).

  • Each enrollment record requires Alternative Reason Exited when the student is exiting the program or end of the school year. Below table provides those reason exited descriptors allowable for reporting.

    • Reason exited may be reported as the same or different if the student has multiple enrollment records provided.
