Additional Student Programs: How to Report Students in Virtual Education
Virtual Education Determination:
There are different types of instruction that may be provided to students during an instructional day.
In-Person Instruction: instruction that is provided in real-time where the teacher and
students are in the same physical space. (not considered virtual education)Virtual Instruction: instruction that is provided either at real time or other times, but the teacher
and students are in different physical spaces. (considered virtual education)
Students receiving their education virtually in an identified Virtual Education School or Program:
Report an accurate Student Program Association Record for Virtual Education when a student is:
Enrolled and attending an identified Virtual Education school
Enrolled and attending an identified Virtual Education program
Begin Date of Program is:
the first school calendar date of the school or program, OR;
the student’s first enrollment date in the school or program
Students receiving their education virtually (not in an identified virtual school or program) who have reached the 50% virtual attendance threshold:
Report an accurate Student Program Association Record for Virtual Education when a student is:
Enrolled and Receiving their education virtually from the reporting corporation or school
Begin date of Program is:
the first date the student begins receiving their education virtually
Students receiving their education virtually (not in an identified virtual school or program) who have not reached the 50% virtual attendance threshold:
Report an accurate Student Program Association Record for Virtual Education when a student is:
Enrolled and Receiving their education virtually from the reporting corporation or school
Begin Date of Program is:
the first date the student begins receiving their education virtually
NOTE: Attendance data will be utilized for validating the need of reporting a Virtual Education Program Association Record to the student. Student’s with 50% or more of their attendance indicating virtual must also have a Virtual Education Program Association Record.
Reporting a Student Virtual Program Associations Record:
Students must have a Virtual Education Program Association Record sent to Data Exchange:
prior to or on count day IF the student receives 50% or more of their education virtually from the first school calendar date or the student’s enrollment date, OR;
first school calendar date after the fall count day or the student’s enrollment date after fall count up to the spring count date, OR;
first date the student begins receiving their education virtually
NEW!! Report the accurate Service Descriptor identifying how a student is receiving their virtual education with the service begin/end dates:
Provide one of the allowable Service Descriptors from the chart below
Provide the begin date of the service
Provide the end date as needed (when the service ends/changes or last day of the school calendar)

Report accurate begin and end dates for the Virtual Program record.
If a student no longer qualifies, enter “99”.
If the end of the year, enter “End of Year (EOY)”
